Football Trophies for Absolute Radio “One Last Game”

The Christian O’Connell Breakfast show staged “One Last Game” at Charlton Athletic last Friday, 11 May 2012.

Long story short but the guys on the breakfast show re-united co-host Richie Firth’s cup winning school side Willingdon Primary of 1988 to take on a team of Absolute Radio listeners as chosen by Christian. Lots of preparation, anticipation and banter culminated in a very exciting game which we at Supreme Engraving were invited to watch. We took family and friends and really  enjoyed a game full of incident and atmosphere that was more than satisfactorily marshaled by former FIFA referee Dermot Gallagher. Goalkeeper Richie saved a penalty in the first half. The match saw 3 goals but not wishing to steal Christian’s thunder you will need to tune in to the show tomorrow morning to find out if it was the listeners team in red kit or Richie’s team in blue kit that took the winning silverware. Supreme Engraving supplied and engraved a winners cup, man of the match cup, winners medals, runners up medals, commemorative engraved salver for Mr Gallagher and engraved commemorative shields for the Assistant Referees.

Irish Rugby International & Saracens scrum-half presents Trophies

Mill Hill School played host to the London Business School organised large Rugby tournament this last weekend. Main sponsors were the Boston Consulting Group and Gilbert Rugby with the awards supplied by Supreme Engraving. The event was staged to raise awareness about and funds for The TAG RUGBY TRUST. A strong Blackheath side took the main award, a large silver plated cup as presented by Irish Rugby star Peter Stringer. As ever Supreme Engraving are delighted to support charitable efforts, in particular TRT. Well done and thanks to Miles Otway and team at LBS for all the hard work in putting this together.

WHY ENTER BUSINESS AWARDS?

Winning an award or just being a finalist gives you the perfect excuse to tell as many people as possible about your achievement.

JUST ENTER!

The awards industry is booming, there are loads of them, each with its own publicity machine and glitzy awards evening. As a result, even awards which you may think are out of your league may well be worth entering. Every business award event is looking for variety in its entrants and finalists and championing small businesses is often either a category in itself or part of the PR objective of the event. Shortlists often have a ring of familiarity to them year in year out as the “professional entrants” submit their applications year after year. Organisers are therefore often desperate to see some new names appearing on their lists.

So at least 50% of your chance of winning is just entering at all! The number of entrants is nearly always a close guarded secret for good reason – it’s likely to be far fewer businesses than you would imagine…ahem of course all those that we have won were fiercely contested by a high calibre field.

RAISING YOUR PROFILE

Winning an award or just being a finalist gives you the perfect excuse to tell as many people as possible about your achievement. This can add credibility to your business and make people sit up and take notice of your company. Spread the word by blogging and by using Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn as well as standing up at networking events and telling people. Consider employing a local PR company to place articles about it in local business newspapers and magazines.

AWARD APPLICATION FORMS

There is so much to be learnt simply from completing an award application. It may expose gaps in your business you did not realise or prompt you to put in place things that would benefit your business. It will force you to examine your business closely and look at exactly how you have achieved certain things. This will help you plan better for the future.

BUSINESS PLANS

A common criterion for business awards is to submit a business plan. Entering an award gives you the perfect reason to focus on creating a new business plan or to revisit and update an old one. The day to day running of a business means that this is often neglected or endlessly postponed – an award application gives you a deadline you have to meet! Once you have completed your plan not only will you have increased your chances of winning, but perhaps more importantly you will have a refreshed vision of where you want to take your company.

BOOSTING MORALE

Attending a business awards evening is the closest we as business owners get to experiencing what the actors do at the Oscars or musicians at the Grammys. Just as those accolades can lead to more opportunities, the same can apply to business awards finalists. Attending an awards evening is a great networking opportunity and also the perfect excuse to treat your staff to a great evening out with free food, wine and entertainment. If you are lucky enough to win the whole team can then share in the joy of the occasion. The award then becomes a great way to boost staff morale and pride in the business!

Keep on Running!

Dartford Road Runners, the large Kent based running club, recently held their annual presentation award ceremony. Supreme Engraving were again asked to provide the trophies and awards which we were of course delighted to do. The club chose a mixture of bespoke made glass awards and an assortment of other presentation cups and trophies.

The gala evening was fantastically captured by South East London Photographer Jacob Mansfield Photography. The complete series of images from that evening can be found at http://jacobmansfieldphotography.co.uk/dartford-road-runners The selected pictures below are reproduced with the kind permission of Jac Mansfied.

We look forward to working with Dartford Road Runners again next month when they put on the 800+ runner “Les Witton” 10k event. Watch out for the fantastic limited edition enameled medals that we have had struck.

Imperial College London – Staff Awards

Tag Rugby Trust Challenge

The Tag Rugby Trust (TRT) is an amazing and most worthy Charity. Initially I assumed that the beneficiaries of their efforts were exclusively based in some far flung almost forgotten corner of the world. Well it is true to say that much of their “final delivery of service” does take place in poor and suffering communities around the planet, but I have now seen and spoken to many other youngsters right here in the UK, who mutually benefit.

TRT start off by working with school pupils and their teachers here in the UK. These UK students effectively work in partnership and under the guiding hand of experienced TRT adult volunteers to deliver the “service” to their young counterparts in such places as Mexico, Romania, Zambia, India & Uganda. Well the “service” you may have guessed is the coaching and playing of Tag Rugby. The UK pupils initially fund raise to gather costs towards travel to the given destination. They work closely with their own schools on projects relating to the trip and the forthcoming adventure and work programme. Upon return they share their experiences with their families, friends and other students.

The joy and relief from what can and are often otherwise miserable existences the Tag Rugby activity brings, has a lasting and positive impression on the foreign recipients. The sense of accomplishment by those British school children that work hard to go on these voyages of discovery are felt in equal measure. The stories I have listened to from those that have experienced such trips have told me so. It might sound cheesy but these kids come home “better people”. There is certainly much more to this project than I originally envisaged!

Please take a look at http://tagrugbytrust.co.uk/ for more information about the trust and what they can do for those communities both abroad and at home. As the Trust has no direct funding they need your support. Supreme Engraving is delighted to do so.

At a recent fund raising event held at Blackheath Rugby Club, the charity organised an evening 7’s tag rugby tournament. It was very well supported and those that did so had great fun on the pitch and later off it in the bar when an impromptu informal networking event ensued.

Well done to London Business School who were the overall winners and congratulations to all the other participating corporate and club teams. A Picture of one of the Supreme Engraving donated awards can be seen below. Pictures of the event can be seen here. Top notch Tag Rugby Trust, let’s help them keep up the great work!

Walk4Matt2011

It is underway 21st to 28th May 2011.

The Walk4Matt is a 110 mile walk from Rugby School to Twickenham along the Grand Union Canal. This annual walk is designed to raise money for the Matt Hampson Foundation, SpecialEffect and the charity of choice from each participating Premiership Rugby Clubs.

Check out www.walk4matt.org for the route and schedule of events so that you can get down and support the walkers and the charitable causes. One such event is to be held on 24 May, free spectator entry. A number of Premiership rugby players will be stopping in Tring as a charity cricket match takes place. Celebrities like Freddie Tuilagi, Andy Cooke, James Buckland, Harry Ellis and Matt Cornwell will be among those appearing at Tring Park Cricket Club.

The 40-over match will be played between a Tring XI and players from Walk4Matt. It will raise money for The Matt Hampson Foundation, set up in the name of the former rugby player, who suffered a career-ending spinal injury. The charity aims to inspire young people and support those who are seriously injured through sport. The event starts at 11am and finishes at 5pm.
